Police in Nairobi have launched investigations into the mysterious death of 22-year-old university student and influencer Consolata Githinji, popularly known as “Connie,” who died after falling from a sixth-floor apartment in Kileleshwa.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, April 26, 2026, at a short-stay apartment block, raising questions about what transpired moments before her fatal fall.
According to police reports, Consolata had traveled from Murang’a, where she studied at Murang’a University College, to meet a 33-year-old man she had connected with on a popular dating site.
Authorities say it was their first physical meeting. The man, who works for a company dealing in women’s hair products, is currently in custody and is cooperating with investigators.
He has told police that the young woman jumped from the apartment, though detectives say they are still piecing together the events leading to her death.
Timeline of Events Raises Questions
Preliminary findings and CCTV footage have provided a rough timeline of the night’s events. Consolata reportedly arrived at the apartment at 4:17 a.m. accompanied by the man.
At approximately 4:32 a.m., a disturbance was reported inside the unit. The door was briefly opened, and a security guard entered before leaving moments later.
She was last seen alive shortly after the guard’s departure. By 5:30 a.m., her body was discovered on the ground floor after falling from the sixth floor of Block C to the third basement level.
Police noted visible injuries to her head, ribs, and hands, consistent with a high-impact fall.
Investigations Intensify Amid Contradictions
Detectives are now working to establish whether a confrontation occurred before the fall, with early suspicions suggesting the two may have argued inside the room.
Further complicating the case, the apartment had reportedly been booked by a friend of the man, not the suspect himself. Previous occupants had checked out just before 4:00 a.m., minutes before the pair arrived.
Crime scene investigators have already processed the apartment, and Consolata’s body was moved to City Mortuary in Nairobi pending a post-mortem examination.
The man was presented in court as police sought additional time to detain him while investigations continue. Authorities have classified him as a person of interest.
Meanwhile, Consolata’s family and friends are calling for justice, urging investigators to uncover the truth behind her sudden death.
This incident adds to a growing list of troubling cases involving young women in short-stay apartments across Nairobi, prompting renewed concerns over safety and regulation in the rapidly expanding sector.
As investigations continue, authorities are expected to rely on forensic analysis, CCTV footage, and witness accounts to determine whether foul play was involved.
