In his first major interview since the shocking shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, U.S. President Donald Trump has shared a detailed account of the April 25 incident.
Trump described the chaos that unfolded when a gunman opened fire, revealing that the attacker had been “radicalized” and was “probably a pretty sick guy.”
According to the president, he had reviewed a manifesto linked to the suspect, which pointed to extremist motivations behind the attack.
Trump Recalls Dramatic Moment
The president painted a vivid picture of the incident, noting how quickly events escalated. He said the shooter fired “one or two rounds,” describing the speed of the attack as “incredible” and “like a blur.”
Trump also highlighted the swift reaction of the United States Secret Service, praising their professionalism under pressure.
“They were so professional,” Trump said, explaining how agents immediately drew their weapons, issued commands, and neutralized the threat within moments.
Trump pointed to the visible distress of Melania Trump during the incident, saying her reaction reflected the gravity of the situation.
“You can see the expression on the First Lady’s face. She looked very upset about what just took place,” he noted.
Following the gunfire, Secret Service agents instructed Trump to take cover before escorting him to a secure holding room.
Trump’s Push to Continue Event After Incident
Despite the severity of the situation, Trump revealed that he initially wanted the event to proceed.
“I tried to get them to continue the event, if possible,” he said, underscoring his desire to maintain normalcy even after the attempted attack.
However, security protocols ultimately took precedence as authorities secured the venue and assessed the threat.
