Biryani with meat is one of the most beloved rice dishes, known for its rich aroma, layered spices, and tender, juicy meat. It is a dish that is made with love, well marinated meat, and a blend of spices that create a deep, satisfying flavor in every bite. Whether served at celebrations or as a special home cooked meal, meat biryani always stands out as a comforting and impressive dish.
1.Ingredients for Meat Biryani
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 500g beef (cut into medium pieces)
- 2 large onions (thinly sliced)
- 2 tomatoes (chopped)
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 3 tablespoons cooking oil
2. Spices and Seasoning
- 2 teaspoons garlic paste
- 2 teaspoons ginger paste
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 teaspoons cumin powder
- 2 teaspoons coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1–2 teaspoons chili powder (optional)
- 3–4 whole cloves
- 2–3 cardamom pods
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 bay leaf
- Salt to taste
3. Rice Preparation Ingredients
- Water for boiling rice
- 1 teaspoon salt
- spices ( cardamom, cloves, cinnamon for aroma)
4. Garnishing
- Fresh coriander leaves (chopped)
- Fresh mint leaves (chopped) handful
- Fried onions
Method for Meat Biryani
1. Preparing and Cooking the Meat
- Wash and cut the meat into medium pieces
- In a bowl, mix the meat with: Yoghurt
- Add Garlic paste and Ginger paste
- Add Spices (turmeric, cumin, chili, coriander, salt)
- Cover and marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes (or longer for better results)
- Heat oil in a pot
- Add sliced onions and fry until golden brown
- Add tomatoes and cook until soft
- Add the marinated meat and mix well
- Let it cook on medium heat until the meat is tender and the sauce thickens and set aside
2. Preparing the Rice
- Wash the basmati rice until the water runs clear
- Boil water in a separate pot and add salt
- Add whole spices: cinnamon, cardamom, cloves
- Add rice and cook until about 70% done (slightly firm)
- Drain the rice and set aside
3. Layering the Biryani
- In a clean pot, add a layer of cooked rice
- Add a layer of cooked meat with its sauce
- Repeat layers (rice → meat → rice) until everything is used
- Sprinkle chopped coriander and mint on top
- Add fried onions
4. Steaming (Dum Cooking)
- Cover the pot tightly with a lid
- Cook on low heat for 15–25 minutes
- Let the steam cook everything together so flavors blend
