Salah Returns to Liverpool Squad After Talks With Slot, but Tensions Remain

Mohamed Salah has been named in Liverpool’s squad for Saturday’s Premier League match against Brighton after holding face-to-face talks with head coach Arne Slot.

The meeting took place at Liverpool’s training centre on Friday, days after Salah publicly criticised the club following the draw at Leeds. The forward said at the time that his relationship with Slot had broken down. It is not known if Salah apologised during the talks, but his inclusion suggests some easing of the situation.

Slot admitted the past week had been difficult and said he was “not enjoying” the dispute. However, he stressed that all decisions were made in the best interests of the team and the club.

Salah, 33, has been frustrated by being named on the bench for three straight matches, a first in his Liverpool career. He is set to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday, a break that could give both sides time to address the issue before his expected return in January.

The Liverpool coach said he has no desire to see Salah leave the club and rejected claims that the forward had been treated without respect. Slot added that senior players are handled differently and said he had spoken to Salah many times in recent weeks.

Saudi Pro League clubs are still monitoring the situation, but for now Salah remains part of Slot’s plans as Liverpool prepare for the Brighton game.
