Kenya Mourns Supreme Court Justice Mohammed Ibrahim

Kenya mourns Justice Mohammed Ibrahim.

Kenya has been plunged into mourning following the passing of Supreme Court Justice Mohammed Kadhar Ibrahim, a towering figure in the country’s judiciary.

In a moving tribute, President William Ruto described Justice Ibrahim as a principled jurist, a passionate defender of human rights, and a steadfast champion of multi-party democracy.

The President noted that the late judge whose news of demise broke on Wednesday, blazed a historic trail as the first member of his community to be admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, breaking barriers and inspiring generations.

On his own behalf and that of all Kenyans, President Ruto extended heartfelt condolences to Justice Ibrahim’s family, friends, colleagues, and the wider legal fraternity.

Chief Justice Martha Koome Commemorates Justice Ibrahim’s Legacy

Chief Justice Martha Koome also paid glowing tribute, hailing Justice Ibrahim as a jurist of exceptional humility and integrity whose legacy will endure within Kenya’s constitutional architecture.

She noted that he will be remembered as a steadfast guardian of constitutionalism, electoral justice, and human dignity.

Justice Ibrahim played a pivotal role in strengthening the Judiciary’s preparedness and public confidence in the adjudication of electoral disputes.

He served as Chairperson of the Judiciary Committee on Elections and earlier chaired the ad hoc Judiciary Working Committee on Election Preparations, positions through which he helped entrench credibility during critical democratic moments.

Beyond the courtroom, Justice Ibrahim is remembered as a collegial judge, a quiet mentor, and a firm believer in principles over prominence.

As the nation mourns, the Judiciary has called for sensitivity and compassion during this period of collective grief, standing in solidarity with Justice Ibrahim’s family, friends, and the entire judicial community.
