Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has revealed that he recently underwent a medical procedure and is now recuperating, saying his recovery is progressing well.
In a statement shared on Facebook, Owino expressed gratitude for the prayers, messages of goodwill and concern he has received from Kenyans, describing the support as a source of strength to him and his family.
“In the spirit of openness and honesty that should guide all who serve the public, I wish to share that I recently underwent a medical procedure following an illness. By God’s grace, I am now on the path to recovery,” he said, adding that he hopes to resume his public duties in the New Year.
The MP also reflected on Kenyans spending the festive season in hospital, offering prayers and words of encouragement to those facing health challenges.
“My heart is especially with all Kenyans who have spent this Christmas season in hospital beds, away from their loved ones. I pray that God grants you healing, renewed strength and comfort,” he said.
Owino cited a Bible verse, Jeremiah 30:17 — “I will give you back your health and heal your wounds,” says the Lord — urging compassion and solidarity, and calling on Kenyans to stand together in shared humanity.
Separately, an end-of-year opinion poll released on December 28 ranked Owino as the most preferred Luo political kingpin. The Infortrak survey, conducted on December 19 and 20, showed that 33 per cent of respondents viewed him as the leading successor to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
He was followed by Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga at 10 per cent, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga at seven per cent, Siaya Governor James Orengo at four per cent, and Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi and Interior PS Raymond Omolo, both at two per cent.
