Move aims to boost ODM’s global ties as the party reshapes its leadership.
ODM leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has named diplomat Dr Renish Achieng Omullo as his Advisor on Regional and International Affairs. The appointment takes place immediately and is meant to strengthen the party’s work and presence outside Kenya.
In his letter, Oburu said Omullo will guide him on regional and international issues and help expand ODM’s diplomatic reach. The role will also support the party’s wider goals as it seeks to build stronger links with partners across Africa and beyond.
Omullo said she is grateful for the trust and will work to support Oburu’s international agenda. She has many years of diplomatic experience. She previously served as South Sudan’s Special Envoy to Germany, where she handled regional and international duties from Berlin. Her work in South Sudan covered diplomacy, trade and cross-border cooperation.
She has also worked in international business as Africa Business Development Manager for Celle Brunnenbau GmbH, gaining experience in commercial diplomacy and trade. In Kenya, she has advised former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on regional and international affairs.
Her arrival comes at a key moment for ODM. The party is going through a major transition after the passing of its founder Raila Odinga. Oburu took over leadership following consultations within ODM’s top organs, county branches and grassroots leaders. They agreed the party needed stability and continuity during a sensitive period.
Oburu’s long experience in politics, diplomacy and strategy made him the preferred choice to guide the movement and protect Raila’s legacy. Party officials say Omullo’s appointment will help ODM strengthen its international standing as it adjusts to new leadership while keeping its core vision intact.
