Tanzanian music star Diamond Platnumz has deleted the instagram posts in which he showed support for President Samia Suluhu Hassan, following intense criticism and boycott threats from his followers.
The move came on Thursday, October 30, 2025, just a day after the celebrated Bongo Flava artist posted a long message supporting the Head of State as Tanzanians went to the polls.
In his now-deleted post, Diamond described President Suluhu as a hardworking and wise leader who had improved sectors such as education, health, agriculture, and infrastructure. He also pledged his vote and that of his companies to her re-election campaign.
However, the message was met with anger from many Tanzanians online, who accused the singer of ignoring growing frustration over the government’s handling of the election. The country’s general vote has been marked by rising tension, scattered protests, and accusations of limited space for opposition voices.
On Wednesday, the first day of voting, several regions witnessed demonstrations as some citizens called for an election boycott. Videos shared on social media showed groups chanting against what they claimed was an unfair process.
By Thursday, criticism had shifted online, with thousands of Tanzanians flooding Diamond’s Instagram comment section. Many demanded that he withdraw his endorsement, arguing that his influence should be used to highlight public grievances rather than praise political leaders.
Faced with mounting pressure, the musician quietly took down all posts related to the President by Thursday evening. Screenshots of his deleted messages continued to circulate widely across social media, sparking debate about the relationship between celebrities and politics in Tanzania.
Diamond has not issued any new statement regarding the controversy.
