Trump and Musk at It Again: Billionaire Blasts ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ as Debt Disaster

Elon Musk has reignited his feud with Donald Trump this time over the president’s colossal tax and spending bill accusing him and his allies of betraying their own promises and inflating America’s national debt.

Weeks after a dramatic public fallout with the former president, Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) to slam Trump’s flagship legislation. He warned that any lawmaker backing what he mockingly dubbed the “big beautiful bill” would face political retribution.

“Those who ran on cutting spending and voted for this monstrosity should hang their heads in shame,” the Tesla and SpaceX CEO wrote. “And they will lose their primary next year if it’s the last thing I do on this Earth.”

The billionaire tech mogul even threatened to plaster the faces of supportive lawmakers on posters labelled “LIAR” alongside the claim that they voted to add $5 trillion (£3.6 trillion) to the national debt.

Trump Fires Back

Trump responded swiftly via Truth Social, accusing Musk of hypocrisy, saying: “Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history.”

“Without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa,” he wrote.

He added sarcastically: “No more rocket launches, satellites, or electric cars our country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!”

A Former Ally Turned Critic

Musk had been a vocal supporter of Trump during the campaign, reportedly pouring at least $250 million (£182 million) into efforts to get him elected. He also led the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which controversially cut around 120,000 federal jobs.

Now, Musk claims that Trump’s bill would wipe out the savings achieved through DOGE and drastically increase the federal deficit.

Calling the legislation “utterly insane and destructive”, he lashed out at what he sees as political theatre: “We live in a one-party country the PORKY PIG PARTY!! Time for a new political party that actually cares about the people.”

Apology, Then Retaliation

This is not the first time Musk has taken aim at Trump. Last month, he called the bill a “disgusting abomination” and even implied, in a now-deleted post, that Trump’s name appeared in Jeffrey Epstein’s files.

He later walked back that claim, writing: “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.”

Trump responded in typical style, telling the New York Post, “I thought it was very nice that he did that.”
