NAIROBI — Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has declared that President William Ruto is well on track to win a second term in the 2027 general election.

In a televised interview on Citizen TV Wednesday night, Duale confidently said the Kenya Kwanza alliance had “the numbers” needed to guarantee a landslide win for Ruto, crediting the President’s delivery on campaign promises.

“William Ruto will come back with a landslide. His second term is guaranteed,” Duale stated. “He will be voted, not because of anything else, but because he will deliver on his promises.”

Duale’s comments come at a time when political friction within the ruling coalition is heating up, especially between President Ruto and his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.

The Health CS also linked the upcoming 2029 national census to electoral strength. He suggested that accurate headcounts would be vital to securing the President’s return.

“We’ve told them during the census they must say how many children and cows they have,” Duale said. “We must have enough voters to bring back William Ruto.”

Though meant half-jokingly, the remark touched on a serious issue: how census data can influence voter registration and resource allocation both key to political success.

But even as Duale struck a confident tone, cracks within the Kenya Kwanza house continue to widen.

Gachagua, who once stood firmly beside Ruto, has lately accused the President of sidelining the Mount Kenya region a key voting bloc that helped deliver victory in 2022. Their fallout has become increasingly public.

On the same day as Duale’s remarks, Ruto claimed unnamed opposition figures were plotting to overthrow his government. He said they were hiding behind recent street protests, which have gripped parts of the country.

In a sharp rebuttal, Gachagua told the President to stop “crying wolf,” insisting that no one wanted a coup just a fair fight.

“Nobody wants to overthrow your government,” Gachagua said. “We want to face you on the ballot in August 2027.”

He also defended the Wantam movement, which he now leads, calling it a push for peaceful change through constitutional means not a revolutionary uprising.
