Golfers Gear Up for NCBA Series Clash at Sigona as Weekend Golf Calendar Heats Up

NAIROBI — Over 250 players will take to the fairways of Sigona Golf Club this Saturday, July 5, as the 16th leg of the NCBA Golf Series returns to the course that hosted last year’s Grand Finale.

The par-72 Sigona layout will host a full field across multiple competition brackets. Categories include Overall Men Gross Winner, Overall Lady Gross Winner, Division 2 and 3 victors, and a Junior Winner. Each champion will earn a coveted place in the Series Grand Finale, scheduled for November at Muthaiga Golf Club.

The event follows a packed June calendar, which featured five qualifiers, including a milestone regional edition at the Uganda Golf Club in Kampala.

“This weekend is a celebration of golf across the country,” said NCBA Group Managing Director John Gachora in a statement on Wednesday. “We’re glad to return to Sigona and continue supporting both amateur and professional golf. Our commitment to the sport goes beyond hosting events we’re invested in building talent.”

Alongside the NCBA Series, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) will continue its calendar with the NCBA Limuru Open & Brackenhurst Trophy at Limuru Country Club from Friday through Sunday. A field of 152 amateurs is expected, led by KAGC points leader John Lejirma.

Lejirma enters the Limuru event with strong momentum. At the Goldfields Trophy in Kakamega last month, he carded 68, 74, and a closing 67 to finish seven under par for the tournament. He leads the standings with 1,720 points. Michael Karanga, who skipped the Kakamega event, trails with 1,063, while Elvis Muigua is third at 795.

Meanwhile, at Ruiru Sports Club, the PGK Equator Tour teed off Thursday, bringing together a select group of professionals. NCBA has backed four players Eric Ooko, Nelson Mudanyi, Abraham Galgalo, and Njuguna Ngugi through its support of the PGK Player Development Program, joining seven other sponsors in the effort.

The bank’s involvement across all tiers of Kenyan golf from juniors and amateurs to professionals highlights its continued influence in shaping the country’s sporting landscape.

As the NCBA Series enters its final rounds, competition is expected to intensify, with top performers eyeing their shot at the national showdown in November. For now, all eyes are on Sigona as the tee-off approaches.
