Nairobi United Upsets Gor Mahia 2-1 to Clinch Mozzart Bet Cup and CAF Spot
NAIROBI — Nairobi United pulled off a stunning 2-1 win against record champions Gor Mahia on Sunday to claim the 2025 Mozzart Bet Cup and book a place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

The match, played at Ulinzi Complex, saw the newly promoted FKF Premier League side outplay the Kenyan giants and deny them a shot at continental football.
Ivorian midfielder Frank Ouya opened the scoring for Nairobi United in the 6th minute after capitalizing on a defensive lapse. Gor Mahia equalized through Ben Omondi in the 37th minute with a low drive past the keeper, and the two teams went into halftime tied at 1-1.
But it was Enock Mashaka who sealed the historic win for Nairobi United. In the 73rd minute, he latched onto a rebound and fired home the winner, sending the Nairobi bench into celebration.
Head coach Nicholas Muyoti watched his side hold firm in the final stretch, resisting pressure from a frustrated Gor Mahia attack. The final whistle confirmed a major upset and a milestone for the Nairobi County-sponsored side, who were recently crowned National Super League champions.
The win not only secured the Mozzart Bet Cup title but also earned the club a Ksh 2 million prize and its first-ever ticket to a continental tournament.
“This is a huge moment for the club,” said Muyoti after the match. “We believed, we fought, and now we’ve written history.”
Gor Mahia, aiming to return to continental competition, will now have to regroup ahead of the 2025–26 league season.
Earlier in the day, Murang’a Seal edged Mara Sugar 1-0 in the third-place playoff to claim the bronze medal.
Nairobi United’s triumph ends a thrilling domestic cup campaign and sets the stage for a bold debut on the African stage next season.
