A political blogger who vanished last week has re-emerged alive, safe, and in hiding.
Ndiang’ui Kinyagia, who had been feared missing for days, contacted his family on Tuesday evening from an undisclosed location. In a statement shared by his lawyer, Wahome Thuku, Kinyagia said he had gone into hiding out of fear for his safety.
“He is well, though shaken. He went underground after learning he was being pursued by unknown officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations,” said Thuku.
The blogger reportedly told his family he would be willing to face any legal process but only if his life is protected.
“He’s ready to present himself to the DCI and even appear before court,” Thuku added, “but he must be assured of his safety.”
Kinyagia is expected to appear before the High Court at Milimani on Thursday at 11 a.m., accompanied by legal counsel and family representatives.
The case has stirred public concern, especially after allegations surfaced that officers stormed his home in Kinoo while he was away. According to the family, several personal items were taken without a search warrant.
The matter has since been reported at the Kinoo Police Station.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has also been notified and is expected to provide legal support and analysis.
In a message to supporters, the family expressed gratitude for the public’s concern.
“We wish to thank all Kenyans, both here and abroad, for standing with us,” Thuku said. “We remain hopeful that justice will be served.”
At the time of his disappearance, Kinyagia was known for outspoken posts critical of the political establishment, which has prompted growing fears about the shrinking space for dissent online in Kenya.
