John Lejirma delivered a masterclass at the NCBA GoldFields Trophy, finishing seven under par to tighten his grip at the top of the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) standings. The tournament was held at the Kakamega Golf Club.

Lejirma posted rounds of 68, 74, and a final round 67 to secure the title. His final-day effort stood out, playing a bogey-free round with birdies at the 1st, 4th, 10th, 14th, and 16th holes. He parred the remaining holes to close the round with a back-nine score of 33.

Despite a tough second round on Saturday, where he dropped shots at the 3rd, 7th, 11th, 12th, 14th, and 17th holes, Lejirma’s opening and final rounds proved decisive. He birdied four holes on Saturday, including the 18th, which set him up for a strong finish.

Sammy Mulama finished second at two over par. Cedric Konzolo came in third at three over, followed by John Kamaisi at four over, and Josphat Rono at five over.

Lejirma entered the event as a late addition but walked away with 165 points. This lifted his season total to 1,720 points, extending the gap over second-placed Michael Karanga, who was absent from the Kakamega leg. Karanga remains at 1,063 points, with Elvis Muigua in third at 795.

Sixty-six elite amateur golfers competed in the tournament. The top 33 and ties advanced to the final round. Lejirma took home KES 115,000 from the event’s KES 500,000 prize purse.

The KAGC Series heads next to Limuru for the Limuru Open and Brackenhurst Cup, scheduled at Limuru Country Club this weekend.
