Nairobi, May 13, 2025
Switch Media, the digital-first media subsidiary of the Kenya Red Cross Society, reaffirmed its resilience and strategic focus during its 6th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held today at the organisation’s headquarters in Nairobi.
In a year defined by economic uncertainty, inflationary pressures, and a shifting media landscape, the company presented a strong case for digital innovation, growth in production output, and renewed investment in talent development.
“We’ve not only weathered the storm; we’ve repositioned ourselves as a future-ready, impact-driven media company,” said Susan Ng’ong’a, Chief Operations Officer, during her address to the Board read on her behalf by the Head of Digital Content and IT.
Financial and Operational Gains
According to the Chairman of the Board, Sahil S.R. Shah, Switch Media’s strategic realignment is paying off. The company recorded a 16% growth in turnover, in 2024 compared 2023. At the same time, gross losses were cut by 44%.
“These results reflect operational discipline, smarter execution, and the early fruits of our digital-first transformation,” Mr Shah noted in a statement read by the Head of Production and Technology Kibisu Mulanda.
The media house has continued to leverage its lean structure and creative agility to expand its footprint across local and regional markets. Production remained a core strength, with the team delivering diverse formats—from documentaries and institutional campaigns to social impact stories and live event coverage.
Digital-First Strategy Pays Off
Switch Media continued to prioritise digital transformation, repackaging legacy content while developing new formats tailored for social media platforms. This approach drove increased engagement, particularly among younger audiences, even as digital monetisation is still maturing.
The COO highlighted early experiments with AI-assisted post-production and OTT (Over-The-Top) content distribution as promising frontiers for scaling impact and efficiency.
“The groundwork laid in 2024 positions us to become a digital media leader—not just in Kenya, but across the region,” said Ms Ng’ong’a.
Talent Development Through Switch Media School
A major milestone this year was the full rollout of Switch Media School, the training arm of the company. Launched to address Kenya’s growing skills gap in the media industry, the school offers 70% practical, competency-based learning in digital storytelling, journalism, and television production.
It has not only become a valuable revenue stream but has also strengthened Switch Media’s role as a talent incubator.
“We’re building the next generation of media practitioners—skilled, ethical, and ready to tell stories that matter,” added Ms Ng’ong’a.
Values-Driven Storytelling and Strategic Partnerships
Switch Media remains deeply aligned with the humanitarian values of its shareholder, the Kenya Red Cross Society. Through impactful storytelling, the company continues to amplify the voices of communities, institutions, and partners working for social good.
The leadership expressed appreciation to the Board, auditors, staff, and partners for their continued trust and collaboration. The COO underscored a strategic vision for 2025 that focuses on education, development communications, and youth-centred digital content.
Invitation to Collaborate
With its evolving capacity and proven track record, Switch Media is extending an open invitation to NGOs, development partners, corporate brands, and institutions to collaborate on content creation, digital storytelling, media training, and production services.
Whether it’s a campaign, a documentary, a capacity-building programme, or a branded series—Switch Media has the creative depth, technical skill, and purpose-driven lens to bring stories to life.
