Mr. & Ms.Greater Western Bodybuilding Championship set for Kisumu Debut

KISUMU — More than 120 bodybuilders are preparing to take the stage at the first-ever Mr. and Ms. Greater Western Bodybuilding Championship on July 5. The event will be held at the Fitness Summit Gym Hall in Kisumu and will feature competitions in the Bikini, Physique, and Wellness categories.

Organizers confirmed the event will also serve as a platform to educate athletes on the importance of clean competition and the dangers of doping. The Kenya Bodybuilding Federation has made it clear that all participants will undergo anti-doping tests.

Chrisantus Omedo, president of the federation, emphasized the organization’s zero-tolerance policy on banned substances.

“We will enlighten the bodybuilders on the dangers and benefits of drug-free sport. That’s what we intend to also achieve during the competition,” Omedo said during a briefing on Tuesday.

He warned that athletes found using performance-enhancing drugs would face consequences, noting that tests will be administered at the event.

“Bodybuilders should realize there’s life after bodybuilding. They should always involve themselves in clean sport. This is very important for their lives,” he added.

The championship, the first of its kind in the region, aims to provide a competitive platform for athletes outside the capital. Kisumu was selected to give athletes from Western and Nyanza counties a fair chance to compete and be recognized.

“A large portion of our talent comes from this region,” Omedo said. “When we host events in Nairobi, many from this side miss out because of travel constraints. By holding this championship here, we want to tap and showcase that talent.”

The event is backed by the Kenya Bodybuilding Federation, which plans to expand such competitions across other counties to promote the sport and ensure a nationwide anti-doping campaign.
