Kenya Unveils Smart Public Service Innovations at APSD 2025 in Ethiopia
Addis Ababa- Kenya displayed a suite of public service innovations Monday during the 2025 Africa Public Service Day (APSD) celebrations, held at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The country joined others across the continent in marking the annual event focused on strengthening government institutions and closing long-standing service delivery gaps.

This year’s APSD theme is “Enhancing the Agility and Resilience of Public Institutions to Achieve Equitable Governance and Rapidly Address Historical Service Delivery Gaps.”
Kenya’s delegation, led by Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, presented a range of digital and science-driven solutions developed to improve public service delivery.

Key innovations featured include an Automated Reporting Management Information System developed by the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration. The system aims to streamline data flow between government agencies and local administrators.

The Kenya Forestry Research Institute showcased the JazaMiti Initiative, a tree planting platform aimed at tracking reforestation efforts and engaging citizens directly in climate action.
Other highlighted projects include:
- Water Recycling Technology by Baringo National Polytechnic, designed to address local water scarcity in arid regions.
- KARGOPAY by Kenya Ports Authority, a digital logistics and payment system improving cargo handling efficiency at ports.
- Universal Agent Program by Huduma Kenya, which enables one-stop access to government services through integrated platforms.
- Poultry MeloVax Vaccine by Tharaka University, created to protect small-scale poultry farmers from viral infections, enhancing food security.
Speaking from Addis Ababa, Dr. Imbunya said, “These innovations show how Kenya is responding to citizen needs through technology and inclusive approaches. Our goal is to ensure that no one is left behind.”
Reports from the AU confirm that Kenya is among the top countries demonstrating scalable models for modernizing governance. APSD 2025 brings together over 40 African nations to share policy reforms, digital solutions, and practical responses to administrative challenges.
The event continues through the week, with countries expected to sign declarations committing to innovation-driven public service reforms.
