Nairobi -The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed Kenya will host the final of the 2024 delayed African Nations Championship (CHAN) on August 30 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

This follows an agreement reached during joint consultations between CAF and football officials from Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda the three host nations for the 8th edition of the continental tournament, set to run from August 2 to 30, 2025.

Tanzania will kick off the championship, with the opening match scheduled at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on August 2. Uganda’s Mandela National Stadium in Kampala will host the bronze medal match. Zanzibar, an autonomous region of Tanzania, has also been included as a host, underscoring CAF’s effort to expand the reach and representation of African football.

CAF has finalized group stage allocations and venues across four cities:

  • Group A (Nairobi): Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, Zambia
  • Group B (Dar es Salaam): Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic
  • Group C (Kampala): Uganda, Niger, Guinea, South Africa, Algeria
  • Group D (Zanzibar): Zanzibar, Senegal, Congo, Sudan, Nigeria

Congo was reinstated to the tournament after replacing Equatorial Guinea, which remains suspended by FIFA due to unresolved administrative issues.

The tournament, which is exclusively for players competing in domestic leagues, was originally slated for 2024 but was delayed due to logistical challenges. CHAN 2024 now represents a landmark collaboration in East African football, with multiple host cities and a shared commitment to growing the sport across the region.

CAF’s decision to spread the tournament across four venues marks the first time in CHAN history that the championship will be jointly hosted by four locations in different jurisdictions.
