“I’ll Only Work with Gachagua” Kalonzo Fires Back

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has firmly rejected efforts by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to woo him into joining President William Ruto’s government, describing the current administration as “blood-based” and unworthy of his allegiance.

Speaking during a Sunday church service in Ngong’, Kalonzo accused Kindiki of using his name to curry favour with voters in the Ukambani region. The Wiper boss, visibly animated, made it clear that he has no plans of joining the government or abandoning the opposition.

“Stop using my name,” Kalonzo warned. “Even Ruto knows that if there is one tough opponent who will face him at the ballot in the next election, it is Kalonzo Musyoka.”

Kalonzo’s comments came after Kindiki, during his recent tour of Ukambani, praised Kalonzo’s leadership and hinted at the possibility of working together. But Kalonzo dismissed the praise as dishonest, saying the Deputy President should first apologise to Kenyans for his role during deadly anti-government protests linked to the Gen Z movement.

“You should have apologised to Kenyans,” he told Kindiki. “You were Interior Minister when Gen Zs were killed. Let’s start there. Then apologise for Albert Ojwang’s killing too because you are now the Deputy President.”

Kalonzo was referring to the recent death of university student Albert Ojwang’, which has sparked national outrage and fresh questions about police brutality. The Wiper leader demanded the arrest and prosecution of Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat, who is accused of involvement in the case.

Backing Gachagua, Not Ruto

In a move that caught many by surprise, Kalonzo publicly pledged support for former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua a man once deeply embedded in the ruling UDA party saying Gachagua had shown “truthfulness.”

“I will work with the truthful man called Gachagua,” Kalonzo declared. “I don’t believe this broad-based government is anything to follow. It is blood-based and the latest addition is Albert Ojwang’.”

This comes amid growing rifts within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, with Gachagua increasingly isolated and reported to be working behind the scenes with opposition figures.

Kalonzo’s remarks underscore his commitment to the opposition movement a coalition of parties and politicians who have vowed to unseat Ruto in the 2027 General Election. He insisted the group would not give in to pressure or inducements.

“We will not relent, surrender, be bribed, or be coerced,” he said.

Ruto’s Political Equation Shifts Again

Kalonzo’s rejection is a blow to Ruto’s camp, which has been keen to bring key opposition figures on board to create what it calls a “broad-based government.” But with Kalonzo doubling down and Gachagua drifting further from State House, political lines heading into 2027 are becoming even more unpredictable.

For now, Kalonzo appears set on carving his own path one that positions him as a direct challenger to President Ruto, and potentially a kingmaker in a shifting political landscape still reeling from protests, deep public anger, and calls for justice.
