City Stars and Talanta FC Relegated as Murang’a Seal Survive Final-Day Drama
Nairobi City Stars and Talanta FC have been officially relegated from the Football Kenya Federation Premier League following the conclusion of the 2024–2025 season on Sunday evening.
Both clubs lost their battle to remain in the top flight after critical matches failed to go in their favor. City Stars finished at the bottom of the table with 35 points. The team managed a goalless draw against Mathare United in their final fixture, a result that sealed their fate.
Talanta FC also ended the season on 35 points but dropped to the second division after a 1–0 loss to Murang’a Seal at the SportPesa Arena. The defeat handed Seal the lifeline they needed to secure survival.
Murang’a Seal’s win pushed them above the relegation line with 36 points, just one ahead of Talanta and City Stars.
Posta Rangers also closed the season with 35 points after a 1–1 draw against Bandari in Mbaraki. The result placed them 16th, sending them into a playoff against Naivas FC, who finished third in the National Super League. That match will determine which team earns a slot in next season’s Premier League.
Police FC were crowned league champions after drawing 1–1 with Gor Mahia at Ulinzi Complex. Police secured 65 points, marking their first title win since their promotion in 2021. Gor Mahia ended the campaign in second place with 59 points. Kakamega Homeboyz came in third with 58, followed by Tusker FC with 57. Shabana FC completed the top five at 53 points.
Next season, Police FC will represent Kenya in the CAF Champions League. Gor Mahia could still qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup if they win the Mozzartbet Cup final against Nairobi United.
Nairobi United and Administration Police Service FC, who finished first and second in the National Super League, will move up to the Premier League for the 2025–2026 season.
The relegation of Talanta FC, backed by the Communications Authority of Kenya, and Nairobi City Stars, based in Kawangware, marks a turning point as fresh clubs rise and others exit the top division.
Sunday’s results closed a tense final round that decided promotion, survival, and elimination all in one evening.
