From Desk Job to Most Wanted: DCI Tracks Rogue Employee

Nairobi – Kenyan detectives have launched a countrywide manhunt for a man accused of orchestrating a daring theft worth millions of shillings from his place of work.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) named Alosi Rodgers Ochieng’ as the main suspect in a high-profile case of “stealing by servant”. He is believed to have broken into the accounts office of his employer alongside a group of accomplices, fleeing with cash and valuables worth an estimated multi-million shillings.

The incident is reported to have taken place in May 2025. Authorities have not revealed the exact date or location, citing the ongoing investigation.

“On detection of the theft, Rodgers and his partners in crime holed up, never to show up at work,” said the DCI in a statement released Thursday.

Preliminary investigations have placed Ochieng’ at the scene. The case has since been handed over to the Serious Crimes Unit, a branch of the DCI known for handling complex financial crimes and high-risk suspects.

A senior investigator involved in the probe, who requested anonymity as they are not authorised to speak to the press, confirmed that “internal records and witness accounts” pointed strongly to Ochieng’s involvement. “We have reason to believe this was a planned hit from within,” they added.

The DCI has asked members of the public to assist with any information that could lead to his arrest. “He is considered a flight risk,” the agency noted. “Anyone with credible tips is urged to come forward.”

Ochieng’s whereabouts remain unknown, and police have warned against shielding him.

As the search intensifies, legal experts say the case raises fresh concerns over internal security in public and private institutions. “This highlights the growing threat of insider crimes, especially in finance departments where controls may be weak,” said Mercy Wanjiku, a Nairobi-based criminal justice analyst.

Despite the pressure, authorities say they’re confident justice will be served.

“We’re following all leads,” said the DCI. “He cannot hide forever.”
