HANOI, Vietnam — A brief, light-hearted interaction between French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, has captured widespread attention online during their official visit to Vietnam.
As the couple disembarked from their plane in Hanoi on Sunday evening, cameras captured Brigitte playfully placing her hands on her husband’s face in a gentle push. The moment, though fleeting, quickly circulated on social media, sparking varied reactions.
Initially, the Élysée Palace questioned the authenticity of the footage. However, they later acknowledged the video, describing the interaction as a “moment of relaxation and closeness” between the couple.
President Macron addressed the incident, stating, “It was a playful gesture between my wife and me. Nothing more.”
Despite the light-hearted nature of the moment, some online commentators speculated about the couple’s relationship dynamics. Such interpretations were dismissed by the presidential office as overreactions.
The incident coincided with President Macron’s efforts to strengthen France’s ties in Southeast Asia. During his visit, France and Vietnam signed 14 agreements covering sectors like aviation, defense, and healthcare. Notably, VietJet agreed to purchase 20 Airbus A330neo aircraft, reinforcing Airbus’s presence in the region.
As the Macrons continue their tour, with upcoming visits to Indonesia and Singapore, the brief moment in Hanoi serves as a reminder of the public’s keen interest in the personal lives of world leaders.
