Why Moses Kuria Skipped the Limuru III Meeting

Public Service Cabinet Secretary, Moses Kuria, opted out of the Limuru III meeting

after only recently openly supporting the conference. The meeting was convened for businessmen and political and religious leaders from the Mt. Kenya region.

Speaking at the Citizen TV studios the day before the meeting was convened (May 16 2024), Kuria confirmed that he would not attend the meeting. He claimed there was a powerful personality sponsoring Limuru III who had made it clear to the Former MP for Ndaragwa Constituency Jeremiah Kioni that if he (Kuria) attended, they (the alleged sponsor) would not finance the meeting. This he said on his X platform. He confirmed his sentiments and stood by them during his interview.

He had intended to attend the meeting but changed his mind at the last minute.

“I said and I am going to give you a specific talk about economics of the region and that was the night before yesterday. Only to wake up yesterday and Kioni is speaking all over, fighting me, saying the way I am not invited, the way I am inviting myself,” he said.

In the same interview with Citizen TV, Kuria said he had no idea what the agenda for Limuru 3 is. According to Martha Karua, principal of the Azimio Coalition, the agenda was unity of purpose for the people of Mt Kenya. He added that Jeremiah Kioni had informed him privately and publicly that he was not welcome.

The Limuru meetings have been bringing together members of the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru and Tharaka communities. The third Limuru meeting, dubbed Limuru III, was organized by Martha Karua and Jeremiah Kioni. It was held at Jumuia Center.

CS Moses Kuria co-organized Limuru I and Limuru II. It should be remembered that Former President Uhuru Kenyatta had pulled out of the presidential race but returned after the Limuru II meeting.
