A General Service Unit (GSU) officer is currently in custody as Nairobi detectives probe his involvement in the demise of a 28-year-old woman who reportedly jumped from the balcony of her rented Lang’ata residence on January 11.
Initial reports suggested that the woman, who lived alone, leapt from her third-floor apartment, resulting in her tragic death.
The caretaker of the building alerted law enforcement, mentioning that the incident occurred around 05:50 am and was witnessed by neighbours who heard a disturbing thud.
A police report disseminated on Saturday disclosed that a preliminary examination by Crime Scene personnel from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) found no visible physical injuries on the victim. However, blood was observed emanating from the victim’s nose.
Investigators redirected their focus from a possible suicide after subsequent inquiries linked a GSU officer to the case, believed to be the last individual seen with the deceased.
The DCI narrowed down on the suspect upon discovering various items at the victim’s residence, including a used condom, an empty 750-millilitre Viceroy whiskey bottle, a partially filled 2-litre Coca-Cola bottle, two glasses, and a partially smoked roll of bhang (marijuana).
A mobile phone analysis exposed that Victor Ouma, the GSU officer, had been in constant communication with the deceased.
Further scrutiny revealed that Ouma joined the victim at her apartment on the night of her death after purchasing alcoholic drinks totalling Ksh 1,650 and an unidentified item valued at Ksh 150 at 7:27 pm.
Ongoing investigations aim to unveil the sequence of events between the nights of January 10 and 11, shedding light on the circumstances leading to the woman’s untimely demise.
This incident occurs against the backdrop of a surge in crimes of passion in the country, with three women having lost their lives in Nairobi alone since the of the year.
