The ousting comes after Kuria posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday night. He called out thirteen senators over the ongoing impeachment hearing of Meru’s Governor, Kawira Mwangaza. According to his post, the senators were being misled by external forces.

Among the thirteen are: Aaron Cheruiyot (Kericho), Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu), Hillary Sigei (Bomet), Alex Mundigi (Embu), Samson Cherargei ( Nandi) and Seki Lenku Ole Kanar ( Kajiado).

Fatuma Dullo (Isiolo), Abdul Haji ( Garissa), Kamau Murango (Kirinyaga), Wahome Wamatangi (Nyeri), Kathuri Murugi (Meru), Enoch Wambua (Kitui), and Otieno Kajwang’ (Homabay) were also among those mentioned by the CS.

Today, Wednesday 8 2023, Kawira Mwangaza faced the senate for the second day of the hearing. In their rebuttal, the senators demanded that an apt censure ought to be made on Moses Kuria. Furthermore, they mentioned that the CS had an unbecoming conduct and that he ought to be let off his duty.

“I take great exception in the conduct of Moses Kuria in the tweet and the things he said about this House. I now agree that we should discuss the conduct of this minister because, at every given opportunity, he has done nothing but embarrass the appointing authority,” said Senator Cheruiyot, the majority leader of the House.

Problem With Moses Kuria

The senators mentioned that Moses Kuria had repeatedly sent frivolous remarks over crucial government bodies. They wanted him to be summoned for questioning in The Senate over his behaviour.

“It is my submission that the earlier CS Kuria is let off his duty the better for this administration. Let him know that Senators cannot be intimidated and this monkey business he is trying to introduce cannot be allowed to stand,” added Cheruiyot.

Edwin Sifuna, Nairobi’s Senator, seconded the remarks that were made at the Senate. He added that Kuria has always cast doubt on the appointment decisions that the President has made. He termed him as a national shame.

“Moses Kuria is an incorrigible national shame. How much embarrassment does the president have the capacity to endure? I can assure you that if nothing is done on him (Kuria) more embarrassment is coming,” said Sifuna.

“Action must be taken, and he must be removed from that position.”

Senator Kajwang’ backed the call to oust Kuria by mentioning that the CS had belittled the House and taken away its credibility. According to him, the CS uses social media to disparage the Senate.

“His conduct falls within the threshold of impeachment,” he said.

Call to the President

Wamatangi issued a call to the President to organize his Cabinet. According to him, Moses Kuria is not a special individual and ought to be fired. He further stated that there were more intelligent people in the Central Region that could take over from Moses Kuria.

“Sometimes he doesn’t understand that what he says means a lot to Kenyans and indeed our words have consequences. He has to up his game at this point all of us are going to become his enemies,” Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka said.

The Senate Speaker, Amason Kingi settled the conversation by mentioning that the matter is to be stamped at the National Assembly. He further urged the Senators to pursue the matter to their fulfilment as they have the power under law to deal with the behaviour they are complaining about.

The Senators further warned Kuria to stay clear of the impeachment hearing and its affairs and solely focus on his administrative duties.

CS Moses Kuria further dismissed all the evidence that the Senate would use to determine the impeachment hearing of Kawira Mwangaza. This will be the second time the governor is facing the Senate for yet another impeachment. The first time, she was rescued from impeachment by President Ruto. The MCAs within Meru County unanimously voted for the governor’s impeachment.
