In the Kenyan calendar, October is a month full of activities like festivals and Kenyans do not disappoint with the turnout. One of the biggest festivals this month is the Turkana Tourism and Cultural Festival.
This year, the Nomadic Art Studio, a platform for the collaboration of creatives from across Turkana specializing in different artistic practices has partnered with Turkana Sessions, an ensemble music group known for blending traditional and contemporary music from Turkana to perform at the festival.
Turkana Sessions is what Kenyans have been waiting for in the music industry
Turkana Sessions is set to be the star of the festival. The group is famous for its fusion of traditional and contemporary sounds to create music that reflects the cultural diversity of Turkana while celebrating the Turkana heritage.
The music group that consists of Jackson Nakuwa, Elizabeth Korikel, Mourine Apuu, Jackson Ekori, and Eddie Grey released their debut album Turkana Sessions back in April 2022. Since then it has garnered over 174, 223 streams across Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music.
The music group held its first concert in Nairobi that was held at the Alliance Francaise in December 2022 and in Lodwar at Marble Grounds in the same month. Their fan base has been gradually growing as they gain recognition across the globe.

The Turkana Tourism and Cultural festival that is set to happen from the 12th – 14th of this month at Ekalees Centre in Lodwar is one of East Africa’s most significant cultural showcases pulling a crowd from not only within but also across the Kenyan borders.
This year the festival is set to be the biggest yet with highly influential political leaders and public figures set to make an appearance. This year’s theme centers around celebrating culture while promoting tourism, peaceful coexistence, and green investment for sustainable development.
