Three lives are feared lost and everal injured as tensions escalate at the border of Kisumu and Kericho counties. This comes following a cattle theft incident that occurred on Monday, which resulted in the death of a man from the neighboring Soin Sigowet sub county, accused of being involved in animal theft.
According to local reports, the killing of the alleged cattle thief sparked outrage among the community, triggering revenge from Kericho youths. They reportedly launched a series of raids on homes in the area, leading to injuries and fatalities.

Nyanza Regional Commissioner, Flora Mworoa, confirmed the escalating tension at the border. She expressed concern over the situation, saying, “We are closely monitoring the situation at the Kisumu-Kericho border. Our primary focus is to restore calm and ensure the safety of residents.”
MCA for South East Nyakach, Lumumba Owade, who visited the affected area, confirmed two casualties resulting from the incident.
Owade lamented the loss of life and said, “It’s a tragedy that we have lost two community members in this violence. Their bodies have been moved to the Nyabondo Mission Hospital morgue, and we extend our condolences to their families.”
Owade has blamed the police, claiming that he had previously alerted them to a possible attack but that no action was taken.
As a result of the escalating tensions, the normally bustling Sondu town market has become a ghost town. Local residents are living in fear, uncertain of when the situation will stabilize.
Local resident Sarah Anyango expressed her fear, saying, “The tension here is unbearable. We can’t go about our daily lives, and the market is empty. We just want peace and security.”
Efforts are underway to ease the tension and restore peace in the troubled region. The police have been deployed to maintain order, and local leaders are calling for dialogue to address the root causes of the conflict.
