Kelvin Kiptum, the new world men’s Marathon record holder, has expressed a desire to compete against fellow countryman and widely recognized as the greatest marathoner of all time, Eliud Kipchoge.
On Sunday afternoon, 23-year-old Kiptum, comfortably broke Kipchoge’s previous world record in the streets of Chicago, posting an astounding pace of 2:00:35 to take the top spot. Speaking at Weston Hotel after his arrival from Chicago, the athlete said he is ready to represent Kenya in the Paris Olympics slated for next year.

If chosen to be a member of the country’s marathon team for the Summer Games and receive approval from their respective managements, Kelvin Kiptum and Eliud Kipchoge might face off at the Paris Olympics next year.
I am more than ready to represent my country. If I am selected for Paris Olympics I will be more than willing to go there and compete. It will be exciting to meet Kipchoge, I am ready to race against him. It has always been my dream to compete for Kenya and I will be ready to do that in the Paris Olympics.

Kelvin Kiptum said that his success in the marathon came as a result of rigorous training and resilience. The athlete insisted that anything was possible and he was willing to put in the training involved to run his personal best.

After Faith Kipyegon, who set records in Paris and Florence in May and June, respectively, Kiptum is the second athlete in the nation to win Sh 5 million from the state for his outstanding performance in Chicago. Kiptum is anticipated to take a well-earned break before beginning another breathtaking program that would enable him to surpass his personal best next year.
