Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua declined the initial donation of two million made by the Kiligoris Member of Parliament, Julius Sunkuli during a fundraiser. At the end of the day, the MP was forced to part with five million after the deputy president called him out.
The Deputy President was attending a church service in Kiligoris, Narok County. Part of the program included having a fundraiser for schools in the area. He was overseeing the fundraiser to build Ol Motonyi Primary School and Ol Motonyi Secondary School.
During the meeting, he assured the schools’ management that the Kenya Kwanza administration would set aside a Ksh 10 million donation to facilitate the renovations of the two schools. This would help in building all the necessary structures and facilitate softer learning for the students in the region.
” Finally, there is this school and the junior secondary. You (the congregation) asked us to rebuild the schools. The national government will offer Ksh 10 million,” Gachagua mentioned.
The Narok Governor, Patrick Ole Ntutu, was in attendance at the fundraiser. He offered to buy a school bus for both institutions which brought attention to the MP.
“You will buy a bus. What will Sunkuli do? This work has to be divided,” posed Gachagua.
After the prompt, the MP offered to make a donation of a sum of Ksh 2 million to the schools’ rebuilding. This, however, was too little according to the Deputy President.
“Ksh 2 million is too little. No no no. Should he add? How much should he add? to Ksh 5 million? Citizens have approved that,” the DP led the fundraising session. This declaration led to cheers and celebration from the congregation.
MP Julius Sunkuli
Aside from the declaration of the administration contributing 10 million to the rebuild, the Deputy Head of state donated Ksh 1 million for the church’s development.
