It recently dawned on The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) that an individual claiming to be an advocate was, in fact, an impersonator. The impersonation has prompted LSK to seek urgent action from DCI to apprehend the imposter.
On Thursday, LSK’s Nairobi branch issued a public alert, warning the public about an individual named Brian Mwenda Njagi. Mwenda allegedly purported himself as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

The society clarified that Brian Mwenda Njagi was neither a legitimate advocate nor a member of the society. They urged anyone with information about Njagi or others masquerading as advocates to report to the authorities.

President of the LSK, Eric Theuri, affirmed the revelation. He stated that the imposter using the name Brian Mwenda Njagi was not recognized as an advocate. The LSK has also notified the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and requested his immediate arrest for impersonation.
Omwanza Ombati, a lawyer, raised concerns about the impersonator’s actions. He indicated that the incident not only exposed the risks faced by Kenyan lawyers but also pointed to a potential compromise of critical data within the LSK Portal. Ombati added that the situation warranted urgent action to address the breach and reinforce data security.

Nonetheless, the news of the impersonation rapidly spread on social media platforms. Many netizens shared past activities of the alleged fake lawyer, exposing his actions both within and outside the courtroom. Videos surfaced showing the imposter purportedly representing clients in court and causing disruptions at LSK conferences.
In one particularly startling video, he was seen representing a high-profile client, former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga. Mwenda put on an impressive show and his legal knowledge and confidence could earn him Oscars.
“If they are presenting something verbally, and is contradictory to what is on the affidavit, which I was also going to highlight… There are quite a number of facts that are not in alignment…”

Anyway, one cannot help but wonder how Brian was able to infiltrate the system and represent such a high-profile client. There are so many questions surrounding this incident including his whereabouts and his knowledge of the legal world.
Shockingly, netizens on the X app appear to be standing with Brian Mwenda. Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) leader Francis Atwoli termed Mwenda a brilliant young man. Atwoli made a tweet asserting COTU’s position regarding the matter as the body advocates for Recognition of Prior Learning.

Not to be left behind in the campaign is the Kenya Universities Students Organization (KUSO). The organization has shown its readiness to stand with the comrade despite the LSK distancing themselves from him. According to KUSO, Brian Mwenda is a second-year comrade from Chuka University pursuing a degree in Criminology.
It’s unfortunate that LSK denounced & publicly distanced themselves from BRIAN MWENDA NJAGI aka ‘Mike Ross’ despite him raising the bar high for the Law Profession, fake or not.

Otherwise, netizens cannot help but blame the one person who they think is responsible for creating these desperate times. Truly, tough times call for tough measures, but so do desperate ones call for desperate measures.
