According to the Communication Authority board, Ezra Chiloba, the director general, has been placed on administrative leave.
The board’s chair, Mary Wambui, announced this choice in a memo dated September 18, 2023. The letter announced Christopher Wambua’s selection as the new Director General in an acting role. The mismanagement of a Ksh.662 million employee mortgage program, according to a Citizen Digital report, is what led to the director general of the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), Ezra Chiloba, being suspended on Monday night. The handling of the CA Staff Mortgage Scheme has cost the authority millions of shillings in losses in recent years, according to an audit.

The communication states, “I am pleased to inform all staff of the appointment of Mr. Christopher Wambua as a Director General in Acting Capacity effective today until further notice.” This follows a meeting of the Authority’s Board conducted on September 18, 2023, which resulted in the suspension of the Director General.
Chiloba was supposed to hold the job for a four-year term that was renewable, per his appointment letter. Ezra Chiloba had been fired from his role as Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission in October 2018 before being appointed to the authority. It has only been two years since he was chosen to succeed Francis Wangusi, who was set to retire in 2021.
