Nyako Raises Half a Million for Kimani Mbugua

Former celebrated Citizen TV anchor Kimani Mbugua is a happy man and Ksh 500,000 richer after Nyako rallied Kenyans to raise money for him. This comes after the former journalist made a plea for help.

Kimani Mbugua was diagnosed with bipolar mood disorder in 2020 and was committed to Mathare Hospital. He ended up losing his job at Citizen TV and after being discharged from the hospital he was rendered homeless.

“I got out of the hospital last week and I feel my mind has come back to normal and I don’t want to go back to where I used to be. “I came to look for somebody else who could host me but I didn’t find. I need your help.”

The former TV anchor mentioned that the people who housed him would no longer host him and he had nowhere to sleep. He went on to ask for help from Kenyans sharing that he had a business plan and needed Ksh 200,000 to actualize it.

“My other 0718 number was passed on to another user, here’s my new number…please send whatever you can ata 1 bob ni sawa…I need to raise capital for my company (200k) I will keep you updated on how the money is being used. Asanteni sana,”

TikTok content creator, Nyako rallied Kenyans to contribute to Kimani through her socials. During a live session with Kimani on her page, she surprised Kimani with the total amount Kenyans had managed to raise for him.

After a dramatic pause and teasing, Nyako shared the good news with Kimani that they had managed to raise Ksh 420,000. Nyako went on to plead with the well-wishers to reach Ksh 500,000 which they did.

During the live session upon learned how much Kenyans had contributed. Kimani was seen smiling ear to ear. He expressed his gratitude and shared that he was overwhelmed by the generosity Kenyans showed him.

“Thank you! Thank you so much. I never would have imagined ingekuwa hivi. I am so grateful to all of you. Asanteni sana.”

Kimani shared that he would rent a bedsitter that would be his home office and had gotten a laptop that would help. He added that he was committed to keeping his sobriety and that he had kept away from drugs for two months now.
