Ever since the shocking announcement of Kate Actress and Phil Director’s separation, the Kenyan public has been buzzing with a whirlwind of emotions and opinions, and the most recent twist in this tale unfolded during a suspense-laden interview at TUKO, which has now pushed Kate Actress to take legal action.
On Saturday, September 23, Catherine Kamau, better known as Kate Actress, fired a legal shot in the form of a demand letter, drafted by her lawyer, Waithera Ngugi, straight at the TUKO Extra YouTube channel. This letter came as a result of an interview hosted by Lily Aisha and featured two additional guests, Hussein Yussuf and Victor Otengo.
The show, titled “Chat with Lily,” explored the hottest topics from the previous week, with the Kate and Phil separation dominating discussions. All three participants, including Hussein, voiced their opinions, but it was Hussein Yussuf who dropped a bombshell accusation that sent shockwaves across the internet.
Hussein claimed that Kate and Phil’s marriage had crumbled because of Kate’s alleged promiscuity. He even went as far as to hint that he possessed insider information about the politicians she had supposedly been involved with, causing an uproar among viewers.
“Kama mtu anapenda nje, anapenda nje. Mimi nafeel amebetray boy wangu (Phil Karanja).”
According to the demand letter penned by Waitherea Ngugi, Hussein Yusuf’s statements were nothing short of defamatory. She accused the show of having a sinister motive – to drag Kate’s name through the mud and tarnish her reputation.
“The said statements were made in a public video by Hussein Yusuf, and in the presence of Lily Aisha and Victor Otengo, both employees of Tuko.co.ke, with the intention of portraying our client as an immoral and unethical person.
Ngugi then pointed out the devastating consequences of these allegations on Kate’s life, both personally and professionally, emphasizing that they continue to wreak havoc on her brand and reputation.
“The defamatory statements were marred with falsehoods and distasteful statements that have caused emotional turmoil to our client and her family.”
Ngugi called for a public apology and retraction from Tuko, one that should also be extended to Kate and permanently posted across their social media platforms. She further insisted that Tuko cease and desist from making any further defamatory statements against Kate.

“An official statement of a clear and definite apology and retraction of the defamatory statements, to be copied to our client from Hussein Yusuf and pull down and/or permanently delete the defamatory YouTube video and other related threads.”
Kate and Phil announced their separation through a joint statement on their Instagram accounts. Phil added that they were still good business partners and co-parents and asked that we respect their privacy.
“We came to a conclusion to end our marriage a long while ago and are separated. We sincerely request everyone to honour our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”
Kate Actress and Phil Director were married for six years before their separation.
