However, the President, Joe Biden, has tested negative and will continue to be closely monitored. Mrs. Biden is currently experiencing mild symptoms and is recuperating at their family home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where the couple spent part of the weekend.

President Biden, who returned to the White House after the diagnosis, is set to undergo regular testing throughout the week to ensure his health remains unaffected. This unexpected development underscores the ongoing threat posed by Covid-19 in the United States.

While the number of Covid infections has risen in recent weeks world wide, the overall count remains relatively low, and health experts do not anticipate a resurgence on the scale of 2020 and 2021.

Two new variants, EG.5 and BA.2.86, have raised concerns among scientists. EG.5 has become the dominant variant in the U.S., while BA.2.86, though responsible for fewer infections, exhibits more mutations from the original virus, potentially making it more resistant to vaccines.

Despite the decreased impact of Covid-19 on daily life in America, health officials continue to urge vaccination. An updated vaccine, expected this fall, aims to provide improved protection against these newer variants.

For President Biden, this development harkens back to the early days of his administration when the virus was rampant, and the economy was grappling with closures. However, those days are largely behind us, with the President rarely mentioning Covid-19 or the pandemic in his speeches.

In his recent Labor Day remarks in Pennsylvania, President Biden focused on the economy, saying, “We’ve recovered all the jobs lost during the pandemic. We’ve added millions more.”

The President and the first lady had spent Saturday together, visiting Florida to assess damage from Hurricane Idalia, followed by a Sunday at their Rehoboth Beach home.

If President Biden were to test positive in the coming days, it could jeopardize his plans for an upcoming international trip. He is scheduled to depart on Thursday for a three-day visit to India, where he is slated to attend a meeting of world leaders from the Group of 20.

Subsequently, he will travel to Vietnam before returning to the United States.
