Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has stirred a mix of reactions from a section of her followers after she announced that she had named a road in her county after her husband.
The elected governor took to her Facebook page to post pictures of the said road in a post captioned; Murega Baichu Rd. Hakuna boiling tena. Mwangaza shared pictures of a road under her county that had recently undergone renovation on Saturday, September 2. She then appeared to say that her better half had inspired the name. The road runs from Muthalankari to Kirung’a.
According to a report by Citizen Digital, the road is said to lead to the Meru Governor’s father-in-law’s compound, which may be why she named the road after her husband. the governor has in the past been criticized for nepotism because she involved her husband in county affairs, among other reasons.
The county executive nearly lost her job in 2022 due to MCAs’ anger at her unwavering devotion to her musician husband. Mwangaza designated Murega as the patron of the Meru Youth Service and representative for the Meru hustlers in September of last year which angered residents and a motion for her impeachment was filed. she survived the impeachment in December.
The recent naming of a road after her husband has stirred a mix of reactions with several of her followers raising their eyebrows about the governor’s move.
