The tariff revision by the Kisumu Water and Sewerage Company, effective this month, is rooted in the application of the authorized tariff indexation published through a gazette notice on July 21 by the Water Services Regulatory Board.

TAWASCO sought a tariff review for water services for the period 2023/2024 to 2025/2026 from the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB) in accordance with section 72 (1) (b) of the Water Act, 2016.

In line with the requirements stipulated in section 139 of the Water Act, 2016, public consultation on the application was conducted.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of WASREB John Itunga, stated that, “After evaluating the application, both written and verbal input from stakeholders during the consultation period, and utilizing the latest available data, WASREB has determined that an upward tariff review for TAWASCO is justified. This adjustment aims to enhance service delivery, ensure sustainability, and safeguard consumer interests by meeting the tariff conditions associated with the pricing.”
