In the song, Ney portrays President Suluhu as a bad leader with a good PR team that hides her faults and portrays her as good. He also suggests through his song that President Suluhu offers poor services to the people of Tanzania but still imposes heavy taxes on them.

Some of Ney lyrics that have stirred the pot are, ‘Nchi yaendeshwa kimagendo. Kila kitu kiko wazi.

BASATA has claimed according to its regulations of Bongo Arts, the song by Ney is ‘inciteful’. On the other hand, fans of the singer have come to his defence saying that the song was educative art and that BASATA is a government body killing such art.

Another song that has been banned by Tanzania before was Diamond’s songs, Mtasubiri, Hallelujah and Waka.

In Kenya, songs like Takataka and Yesu nipe nyonyo were banned for being below standards and promoting a wrong message towards the people of Kenya.

Musicians in Kenya have been open to the struggle of their music not being played and promoted locally. The hashtag, play Kenyan music was started to bring awareness to the fact that Kenyan music was not being promoted by local media stations.

Local stations, media personalities and celebrated artists shared that most Kenyan music is below standards in terms of the content itself and video quality amongst many other things.
