Nakuru County Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi made a statement saying, “We received a report at around 5 am from a police officer who heard a gunshot within the Dog Section. At the scene, we found that one officer had been shot dead by his junior colleague. The PC shot his supervisor Sergeant Kimeli from the back, killing him on the spot.”

Ndanyi further confirmed that Constable Konga was immediately disarmed and is now in custody at the Nakuru Central Police Station. The constable had initially fled the scene, prompting a swift manhunt led by his colleagues, which resulted in his arrest.

Authorities have begun investigations into the incident. Preliminary reports suggest that the shooting occurred at close range, with the bullet penetrating Kimeli’s chest area. Detectives are also focusing on determining whether any personal differences existed between the two officers.

“We are yet to ascertain why the junior officer killed his supervisor at around 5 am in the morning,” Ndanyi stated, underscoring the baffling nature of the case.

“The motive of the shooting remains unclear, but we are investigating. The PC was on duty. Sergeant Kimeli had just signed out to leave the duty station.” He added.
