Grammy Award-winning singer Ne-Yo is offering his sincerest apology for the remarks he made regarding gender identity and parenting during his guest appearance on Vlad’s TV, The Gloria Velez Podcast. Ne-Yo faced backlash following his comments on the podcast.
Ne-Yo took to Twitter to issue a statement in which he apologized for any hurt caused by his comments. He acknowledged the need for further education on the topics and pledged to approach his remarks with increased empathy in the future.
After much reflection, I’d like to express my deepest apologies to anyone that I may have hurt with my comments on parenting and gender identity. I have always been an advocate for love and inclusivity in the LGBTQI+ community, so I understand how my comments could’ve been interpreted as insensitive and offensive.

The So Sick singer continued to say that he wants to lead with love and is interested in supporting everyone’s pursuit of happiness.
The 47-year-old singer received backlash after his remarks during a guest appearance on a podcast show. He shared his opinions on how people chose to identify themselves and the problem that he has with it.
I have no problem with nobody. Love who you love, do what you do. I just personally come from an era where a man was a man and a woman was a woman, and it wasn’t but two gender and that’s just how I rocked.

Ne-yo added that he doesn’t like that people would involve him in whatever they choose to identify as. He shared that he wouldn’t participate in that.
Now you could identify as a goldfish if you feel. I don’t care. That isn’t my business. It becomes my business when you try to make me play the game with you. I’m not going to call you a goldfish. But if you want to be a goldfish, you be a goldfish.

The father of seven children also shared his thoughts on parenting. Ne-yo expressed how parents have in his opinion forgotten how to parent and are quick to let their children make changes in their identity at such a young age.
I feel like parents have almost forgotten what the role of parent is. If your little boy comes to you and says, ‘daddy I want to be a girl,’ and you just let him rock with that? He is five. If you let this five-year-old boy decide to eat candy all day, he’s going to do that. Like when did it become okay to let a 5,6 or 12-year-old make a life changing decision for their self?

The topic of gender identity and inclusivity is becoming a sensitive topic. Members of the LGBTQ+ community are fighting for their voices to be heard and their human rights needs met just like the rest of the people. However, not everyone is pro-LGBTQ+ including celebrities who risk getting cancelled for sharing opinions contrary to what the masses agree on.
