The town of Gachugi Ngorongo in Gatundu has been gripped by a wave of fear following a sequence of events that led to the deaths of four men, all victims of a mysterious assailant.
The gruesome attacks took place on Monday night, leaving residents stunned and apprehensive about their safety.
Tobias Wanyama, who miraculously survived the harrowing encounter, recounted the terrifying moments to the press.
He narrated, “Huyu kijana tulipatana naye akaniitisha shilingi kumi… nikamwambia pesa yangu yote imeshikana naenda kununua chakula, sikuenda hata steps mbili.”
Wanyama’s ordeal began when he was approached by an unknown person, wielding a menacing large baton, who demanded a mere 10 Kenyan Shillings from him.
In an abrupt turn of events, the stranger brutally attacked Wanyama, striking him on the head with a stick-like object. He awoke in a hospital hours later, battered and with severe head injuries.
The horrifying resemblance between the victims’ injuries has left the community in shock. Each of the four deceased men suffered from injuries that pointed to a blunt object being the cause. The shared nature of their wounds raises troubling questions about the intentions and identity of the assailant.
Eyewitnesses shared their accounts of the tragic events with Inooro TV. Three of the victims were running errands at the time of their assaults.
One was returning home clutching a bottle of milk when he was suddenly bludgeoned to death. Another met his untimely end while carrying a kilo of meat for his family.
His skull bore the grim evidence of a brutal attack. The third victim had stepped out to buy soap from a nearby store, only to meet a similarly tragic fate.
Mary Nyambura, another victim who lost over Ksh30,000 to the appalling gang after they broke into her shop and stole her stock, said she might end up being a beggar.
Nyambura regretted that the Saturday night incident was the second attack by the criminals who have been stealing edible stock some of which they eat in the neighbourhood leaving her counting losses.
“I started this business a few months ago and it’s been my only source of income. For the criminals to steal my stock twice is now leading me to the begging world. I cannot afford to sleep thinking about the small retail shop,” decried Nyambura.

Fear and uncertainty now pervade the once-peaceful town. A resident, speaking with concern, said, “We don’t know if we will be leaving our houses anymore because you go out to buy sugar and you are killed on your way home. The government needs to step up security in this region; we are living in fear.”
As authorities work tirelessly to unravel the mysteries surrounding these shocking incidents, the people of Gatundu remain on edge.
The pleas for increased security measures are growing louder, as the community grapples with the unsettling reality that danger could lurk in the most unexpected corners of their town.
