Manchester City won the UEFA Super Cup for the first time on Wednesday but needed penalties to beat Sevilla after a 1-1 draw in Athens.
The Super Cup is an annual match between last season’s winners of the Champions League (City) and Europa League (Sevilla).
Youssef En-Nesyri’s towering header gave Sevilla the lead in the 25 minute.
City equalized through a header by winger Cole Palmer in the 63 as the European champions dominated the second half.
Nathan Ake could have won it for City in added time but his stooping header from five yards was brilliantly saved by Bounou.

With the sides unable to be separated at the FT whistle, the USC advanced straight to a penalty shootout.
The first nine spot-kicks of the shootout were all converted but Nemanja Gudelj struck his penalty against the crossbar to hand a 5-4 victory to City.
It is the 15th trophy won by City in Guardiola’s reign that started in 2016.
City’s latest win makes up for the loss to Arsenal in a penalty shootout in the Community Shield 10 days ago.

Yesterday’s win is his fourth European Super Cup, equalling Carlo Ancelotti as manager with most titles in this competition.
“I’m proud. A lot. We knew it from moments earlier in the season and the quality of opponent,” said Guardiola.
“We were lucky because Eddy, like in the final moments of the Champions League final, saved us in the right moments,” he added.
City is now the sixth English team to win the Super Cup.
