Humphrey Wattanga Mulongo has been appointed as the Commissioner General of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) by the National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary, Njuguna Ndung’u.
Mulongo is set to lead the tax body for a period of three years starting from August 22, 2023, as per the official gazette notice dated the same day. He takes over from Githii Mburu, who stepped down from his role in February 2023 after serving in the position for three years and seven months.
The KRA board announced the resignation of Githii Mburu in February this year, citing his decision to pursue personal interests. To fill the position on an interim basis, Advocate Rispah Simiyu was appointed as the Acting KRA Commissioner General until a permanent and competitive replacement is found.
Humphrey Wattanga Mulongo’s educational background includes studies in Biochemical Sciences at Harvard University, followed by pursuing a Master of Business Administration with a focus on Information Systems Strategy and Economics at the Wharton School.

Over the past six years, Mulongo has been a dedicated Commissioner on the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA), eventually becoming the Vice Chair.
Currently, Mulongo holds the position of Managing Partner at Meghraj Capital Limited and serves as a Director at the Nordic Impact Fund and Kenya Climate Ventures (KCV) Limited.
