Caicedo all you need to know

Caicedo, who was left out of Brighton’s squad for their season-opening win at home to Luton Town, is still to have a medical.

Caicedo joined Brighton from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle for £4m in February 2021. However, he did not make his Premier League debut until April 2022.

“This is Moises,” Miguel Angel Ramirez, Caicedo’s former coach at his boyhood club Independiente del Valle, said. “Going back to his village, to his family, his friends, playing football, helping everyone there. He doesn’t forget his people…”

He asked to leave Brighton in the January transfer window earlier this year and Arsenal had multiple offers turned down for the midfielder before he signed a new contract until 2027 in March.

Caicedo will be Chelsea’s eighth signing of the summer, following Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Lesley Ugochukwu, Angelo Gabriel, Robert Sanchez and Diego Moreira.

Chelsea’s rebuild

New manager Mauricio Pochettino has been tasked with overhauling the squad and vastly improving on last season’s 12th-place finish in the Premier League.

Mateo Kovacic, Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ethan Ampadu, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, Abdul Rahman Baba and former captain Cesar Azpilicueta have all departed so far this summer.

Following the stalemate between the teams on Super Sunday 1-1 draw, Klopp was asked about his opposite number Mauricio Pochettino wanting more players in this window, which drew a reply of: “That’s what Chelsea managers want and they usually get it.

Chelsea’s deal with Brighton is worth a British record £115m for midfielder Moises Caicedo. The Blues are understood to be paying an initial £100m, plus £15m in performance-related add-ons.

Half of the add-ons have been described as “quite easily achievable”, while the other half are considered “much harder” to achieve.
