The seasoned journalist expressed his gratitude on social media, thanking President Ruto for the appointment to this key communication role.

With a radio career spanning over two decades, Arap Sang’s journey from radio to State House marks a significant transition. He had recently departed from Media Max Emoo radio on March 24, leaving his next move shrouded in uncertainty. Prior to his tenure at Emoo, Sang was a renowned radio presenter at the popular Kass FM.

Sang’s prominence grew during the aftermath of the 2007 post-election violence, where he was a notable figure due to his radio show. Unfortunately, he also became a person of interest during that time and was subsequently accused of committing crimes against humanity.

The case led him, alongside President Ruto and Henry Kosgey, to appear before the International Criminal Court (ICC). However, after a prolonged six-year legal battle, the case was ultimately dismissed in September 2016 due to insufficient evidence.

Confirming his appointment through a Facebook post, Sang expressed his gratitude to President Ruto, stating, “Thank you, your Excellency President Dr. William Samoei Ruto for appointing me as Director, Public Communication in the office of the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service.”

Sang’s appointment adds another layer to the close link between his career and President Ruto, especially considering their shared experience facing charges at the International Criminal Court in The Hague in connection to the 2007 post-election violence.

Although the court decided to terminate their case on April 5, 2016, due to a lack of evidence, the impact of those events lingers.

As Director of Public Communications, Sang is poised to bring his extensive experience in the media industry to enhance the communication strategies of State House.
