World’s Most Powerful Passports Revealed

Ever since the pandemic, when everyone was restricted in movement and had to work from home and do everything basically at home, people have embraced travelling both domestically and internationally, especially Gen Z. Affordable travel rates, travel blogs and new destinations are popping up daily and passports are being printed.

In light of this, the passport you have goes a long way to ease your travel. Recently, Kenya has been making its passport stronger by forming agreements with different African countries like South Africa and Senegal, so that a Kenyan passport will suffice for travel documentation to those countries.

The Henley Passport Index measures global travel freedom in terms of how much visa-free and visa-on-demand access to different world destinations one can enjoy. Asian counties have been dominating the charts with Japan topping for five years but is now dropped to third and more European countries are rising up the chart.

Top of the chart currently is Singapore, whose citizens are able to visit 193 destinations out of 227 around the world visa-free. In the second place, European countries have bounced back with Germany, Spain and Italy having moved up with visa-free access to 190 destinations.

The United Kingdom and the United States have been on a downward spiral ever since they were both top in 2014. The United Kingdom has had an upward turn of events by shooting up to fourth position while the United States has dropped to the eighth spot with access to 183 destinations.

The United States has had the least increase in securing additional destinations by on 12. On the other hand, the UAE has added 107 visa-free destinations since 2013 which is quite impressive.

On the flip side citizens of Afghanistan only have 27, Iraq with 29 and Syria with 30 making them the worst passport to hold.

The best passports to hold in 2023 are:

  1. Singapore. 192
  2. Germany, Spain & Italy. 190
  3. Japan, Austria, France, Sweden, South Korea and Luxembourg. 189
  4. Denmark, Netherlands, UK & Ireland. 188
  5. Belgium, Norway, Portugal, Switzerland, New Zealand and Malta. 187
