Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s family has been ordered to surrender all registered firearms to the Karen Police Station by Monday, July 24.
The family is supposed to surrender 28 weapons registered in their names to the Firearm Licensing Board in Nairobi.
This comes two days after police raided the residence of Jomo Kenyatta, the son of the former president in Karen, to conduct a search for weapons.
The search was confirmed by the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki on Friday, July 21.
“Today afternoon, an operation has been going on targeting three homesteads within the Karen area where a total of 23 firearms, some of which are suspected to have been used in illegal activities are kept,” he said.

The CS also noted that police had recovered 23 firearms from the other two residences during the raid.
The Interior Ministry has not specified what may occur if the family refuses to surrender the firearm.
However, the former President has pleaded with the government to settle any political scores with him only and leave his family alone.
