In a video posted by Sudan Tribune, General Al-Atta challenges Ruto and tells him to bring on his army and leave out the East African forces.

The East African Forces are currently conducting a joint operation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and helping civilians in Khartoum.

The General’s faction further accused Ruto of funding the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that has been battling the Sudan Armed Forces for the control of Khartoum.

The conflict between the two factions has been going on since the collapse of the transitional government.

The transitional government came into play when they ousted Omar Al-Bashir, the then-president of Sudan in 2019.

The RSF is led by Mohammed Hamdan ‘Hemedti’ Dagalo. The general has accused him of being a close ally to President Ruto consequently sparking animosity between the general and the president of Kenya.

“The state (Kenya) that supports you (RSF) and the mercenaries like you with money must also bring its army… leave the East African Forces and come with your army to intervene, we are waiting for you,” Al-Atta said.

Sudan General and Ruto’s Disagreement

The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) had earlier rejected Ruto as the mediator of the ongoing conflict. President Ruto was appointed by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) as the mediator in the Sudan conflict.

The SAF instead, advocated for the South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit to head the mediation team.

In his address, the general refused the involvement of the East African Force which has been tasked with protecting civilians and aid workers in Khartoum.

The general stressed that they do not want to govern the country. Instead, the political forces to reach an agreement and govern the country. He mentioned that the SAF’s goal was to maintain a united Sudan, ‘ free from the Janjaweed menace’.

“Sudan is not a game of every unscrupulous politician, profiteer and mercenary, ” he stated.
