Kenyan Retired International Soccer Player Bonface Ambani Recalls

As a young upcoming soccer player, I moved from RVIST Nakuru after completion of my accounting course, to Eldoret Cereals FC, where my exploits on the pitch, caught the eye of Rivatex coach Abdul Majid (RIP).

After my bro, headed to AFC Leopards, I replaced him at RIVATEX and I didn’t disappoint. I signed, for Rivatex after just 6 months of football at Cereals FC. Within 6 months, I was again heading out, to AFC Leopards, that’s 1998.

I torment Kenyan defenders and keepers in this league like no one’s business. Each weekend I read rioters act for clubs and believe me not, you had to abide by it.

Bonface Ambani on his 1st derby

On my derby in KPL, I led the onslaught of Shabana FC at their own backyard in Kisii, Gusii Stadium, winning 4-0 with a brace, Khaemba and Robbinson Makokha completing the rout, a match that earned me a national team call-up, plus Khaemba.

I wasn’t ready to leave Rivatex, but rumours, of the club folding up, due to the Company falling under receivership,  was very ripe and doing rounds very fast.

Memories … It’s Sunday…The Last KPL title to be won by AFC. I cherish the moments. How I wish I could rewind the clock, saaaa hizi nipigie Man Utd….I torment those Emirate friends of mine. Lovely Sunday.

I was now looking for an exit, and it presented itself. I was among the hottest strikers around and a juicy sign-on fee of 200K in the offing from AFC Leopards Chairman, The late Francis Chahonyo, lured me straight to my childhood dream team. With a salary of 3800/= and a rise to Kshs24K, who would have stayed behind?

Bonface Ambani joins AFC Leopards

I joined my Elder bro Fred, in the ranks of the Mighty Ingwee. The welcome to the team was extremely super.

I settled in very fast. On my debut, I came off the bench in the 80th minute, with Leopards trailing 1-0 against green Berets at Nyayo Stadium, I pulled it back and settled the scores to 1-1. That’s how I walked into the 1’st 11.

A sublime clinical through ball from Philip PikiPiki Ouma set me straight on goal and with a power-packed shot, it was 1-1. I earned a point for Ingwee.
