Raila and Ruto agree to Dialogue Facilitated by Nigerian President.

Azimio Coalition leader, Raila Odinga and Kenya Kwanza leader, William Ruto have agreed to dialogue following the anti-government protests. The dialogues are to be facilitated by the former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo.

The National Assembly Minority Leader, Opiyo Wandanyi, released a statement on Saturday. He mentioned that the two disputing parties agreed to involve the former Nigerian President to mediate the talks. The talks have the goal of finding solutions that could maintain peace.

The factions decided to have Obasanjo as the mediator of the talks. At the same time, each faction is to select five people to be part of the committee to have the dialogue with.

“We the leadership of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party, having consulted with the leadership of Kenya Kwanza under the facilitation of Obasanjo on the state of our nation, desirous of a democratic and peaceful resolution of issues that beset our nation…” read the statement.

They further stated their regret for the violence that took place during the protests that they called for in the nation. In the statement, the faction took responsibility for all the deaths that were caused, the property destroyed and in addition to that, the serious injuries received from the protests.

” … affirming our commitment to adherence to the constitution and the rule of law, determined to resolve our difference amicably for the benefit of all our people. We have therefore agreed with Kenya Kwanza to establish a committee of ten,”

Wandayi in the statement said that of the 10 members, 4 of them would be outside Parliament where each party only selects two each. The remaining six members include two leaders of the Majority and Minority in the National Assembly, four MPs from both sides, two each.

Though the statement was released, the members of the Kenya Kwanza government are against the President allowing talks with the opposition leader.
