Jay Z’s mother Gloria Carter, tied the knot over the weekend with her longtime female partner Roxanne Wilshire in New York.
The wedding ceremony which took place in Tribeca involved close celebrity friends of the Carter Family. In attendance were Beyonce’s mother Tina Knowles and her daughter Blue Ivy, renowned comedian Tyler Perry and Singer Kelly Rowland among others.

Jay Z rapped in his song ‘Smile’ about how his mother came out to him as a lesbian. The song, released in 2017 as part of his album 4:44, was a collaboration with his mother who also expresses through a poem her struggle of having to stay closeted due to societal judgement.
Jay Z has always shown support for his mother, earlier expressing how happy he was that his mother had found love after having to struggle for a long time in the name of protecting her children. The wedding has been dubbed as the celebration of love and inclusion as friends and family showed up to support Gloria Carter and Roxanne Wilshire.

Roxanne Wilshire has been seen in support of The Shawn Carter Foundation, an organisation co-owned by Jay Z and his mother even though she is not active on social media. The couple is said to have begun dating way before Gloria Carter publicly came out.
